The Importance of a Skin Care Regimen

When I was a teenager I had horrible skin. Acne, redness, dry skin, etc… I had it all. I know now that there was a secret to having good, or at least mostly clear skin. It took me a while to keep the acne down and even now I still get acne, but I know now even how to keep it at a minimum. What I may tell you will probably change the way you think about your skin.

Choosing a cleanser

This is actually more important than you think. Most cleansers you can choose for oily, dry, or normal. You usually know if you have what kind of skin by the feel of it. Whatever skin you have it’s still important to take care of it. Yes, even if you don’t have skin problems now. It can go a long way. Think more about what your skin will look like 10 years down the road. Your skin will appreciate the time and care you give it.

Mistakes most people make about moisturizer

What most people don’t understand is that you need moisturizer. I know what you are thinking though: “I already have oily skin.” That’s why your skin is oily! Your skin is working overtime after you cleanse your skin because you aren’t putting any oils back into it! So it’s work overtime and overproducing its oil glands and then you still end up with clogged pores!
So my recommendation is always use a moisturizer after you cleanse.

Use the same brand

Use preferably the same brand of skin care products. The chemical makeup in one brand is most likely way different than another one. You can test different brands and you’ll find what suits you. I use Aveeno, but it may not work for you. We are all different and so is our skin. I believe the reason that Proactive works for most people is that it is a skin regimen. It never worked for me myself though because my skin is different than others.

What is so important about toner?

I used to ask myself this exact question until it was later explained to me in Cosmetology school. You know when your skin gets blotchy and sometimes shows different shades in a certain light? That is your skin tone. A toner evens your skin tone, making it all a similar color so you don’t get that blotchy look in pictures. It’s also good for closing your pores. If you can stand the smell a good natural toner that I use is Apple Cider Vinegar.

Washing your face in hot or cold water

When cleansing your face use should use warm water. It opens your pores so you can clean the dirt out of them. This is important to do to avoid acne, because that is what acne is caused by. When rinsing off your cleanser you should use cold water to close pores. It makes it harder for dirt to get in them and makes your skin look nice and tight. I hate when my pores show and you see little holes in a certain light.

Exfoliating your skin

Now from my own personal experience this does do very good for your skin though I wouldn’t overdue it. Exfoliating is taking the dead skin off your face. It does help in also making your skin look more youthful and showing the nicer looking skin beneath. I prefer only doing this once a week. Exfoliating itself can cause redness if done too much, so don’t throw it off altogether if you’ve had a bad experience with it. You most likely used it one too many times.

Whatever skin you have it is important to take care of it. In the long run you will look better and feel better. It also helps to make your makeup go on more evenly. I was taught in Cosmetology school that if you leave your make up on all night it takes years off your face so be sure to take off your makeup before you go to bed. I hope I helped!
